Each art quilt begins with a photograph that inspires the entire piece.
I study the image closely, then hand draw a custom pattern from it on my computer.
This pattern becomes the roadmap for the quilt, breaking the portrait into individual shapes that capture every color, contour, and value.
Once the pattern is ready, I select fabrics that match the tones and textures of the original photo. Every shade matters. Light, medium, and dark values all work together to create depth and realism.
I carefully cut each shape from the chosen fabrics, following the pattern piece by piece. Using a raw‑edge appliqué method these fabric shapes are then arranged like a mosaic on the quilt top, slowly forming the image as the design comes to life.
With the composition complete, I layer the quilt top with batting and backing fabric. Each piece is stitched down using decorative stitches and quilting that not only secure the fabric but also add dimension and artistry. The stitching enhances the portrait, giving it texture and movement.
To finish, I add a coordinating binding around the edges and a hanging sleeve on the back. The result is a one‑of‑a‑kind art quilt. Handcrafted from start to finish, rich with detail, and ready to display!
